Hilary Pecis (b. 1979, Fullerton, California) lives and works in Los Angeles. She received her BFA and MFA from the California College of the Arts in San Francisco and was the 2008 recipient of the San Francisco Arts Commission's Murphy and Cadogan Fellowship. Working primarily in acrylic, Pecis paints vivid still lifes, interiors and landscapes drawn from photographs and memory: the layered rooms of friends' homes filled with books, records, plants and artworks, as well as the stoops, sidewalks and vendor stands she passes on runs and commutes around Los Angeles, transforming ordinary scenes into dense, kaleidoscopic compositions. Her work is held in the collections of the Aïshti Foundation, the Orange County Museum of Art and the Nasher Museum of Art, among others.
