Tan Yongqing (b. 1990, Hebei Province) lives and works in Shijiazhuang. He received his BFA and MFA in oil painting from the Academy of Arts and Design, Tsinghua University, where he studied under Li Mu, and taught at Hebei Normal University from 2016 to 2021. His paintings dwell on the universality and layered nature of life: figures rendered in soft, blurred greys, distorted and detached, suspended somewhere between gloom and emptiness. Solo exhibitions include Cunning Moonlight at Hive Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing (2019), Day and Night at Mine Project, Hong Kong (2020), and Fantasy at Longlati Foundation, Shanghai (2022).
