Eddie Martinez (b. 1977, Groton, Connecticut) lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Working between figuration and abstraction, painting and drawing, he is known for large-scale canvases built from muscular, urgent brushwork in oil, enamel and spray paint, often with collaged found objects, and for a personal iconography of bug-eyed figures, blockheads and his recurring Bufly motif. Having spent his teenage years making graffiti, Martinez keeps the rough lines and bold colour of street art in a fast, intuitive practice. He represented San Marino at the Venice Biennale in 2024, and his work is held by institutions including the Bronx Museum, the Morgan Library & Museum, Buffalo AKG Art Museum and Colección Jumex, Mexico City.
